That suspense phrase that kept ticking every Eranian came to an end in the weekly meeting on the 13th September. It was ERA’s turn to hear to the“ Freezing-speech” of Fr.Jagath Gasper Raj, a well- known Person in the Rotary front after his hallmark speech in PETS.

The President, in a hall filled with Rotarians, Anns, Guests and District Officials, called the meeting to order. Ann.Shrimathi Swaminathan gave the meeting a devotional start with her melodious voice in a prayer. Secretary Selvam while welcoming the chief guest gave a poetical explanation for the topic on cards - Ethalum Isaipada vazthalum- a phrase introduced by the Tamil great, Tiruvalluvar. The topic is something easy to grasp, but hard to apply. Father Jagath made this application simple by his speech filled with anecdotes and his hymns.

He started with praise for the Rotarians in general. To put it in his own words “ The greatest help that a man can do to himself is to make him harmonious and propagate that harmony to the rest of the world”. He called for a feel-easy life, as beauty is a feature of those who feel happy. He also compared and contrasted Indian life with Philippines, where he had worked for many years. Indians land up being tensed as against their Philippinno counterparts who takes things easily.
His anecdotes of, “Philippines woman who lost her house (but not her hope)” , “a small boy who walked eight miles to bid a farewell as a token of thanks” “The phone call from Ronald Reagan” were all well received by the audience. A call for a tension free life and self-control was well realized by the audience. True to the statement “Greatest victory in the world is victory over self” was well propagated.

Father finished with a thiruppavai song and gave an harmonious ending to his speech. Eranians wouldn’t leave a man of such high knowledge without getting the best from him as they asked a lot of questions which was well answered by Father.

Tom Haynes , an Australian, visited Chennai in 1983, when he was 17 years old, as an International Exchange Student sponsored by Rotary International. He remained in India for a period of 6 months, where he learned Classical Dance, Flute, music from TM.Krishna, Yoga at the Krishnamachari Yoga mandiram, and an experience of various religions of our country. Deeply into the love and holistic life he had in India, says that it was a vacuum, when he returned to Australia. Then onwards he searched into spirituality and creative innovations, and reached to destiny as a successful Architect, specializing in the field of Green Buildings. He learnt Sanskrit and the Vedas (for nearly 5 years) at America. He learnt Marshall arts and Meditation.
Is that all what he is ? He is proud to say that he is a DYSLEXIC. Albert Einstein, Winston Churchill, Our own Ramanujam, and according to him about 20% of the worlds population are DYSLEXIC. Is it a stigma to be depressed about ? No he says be proud of it, only the Dyslexic’s are the true creaters.

He visited the Madras Dyslexic Association (MDA) (19-9-07), and rendered a soulful discourse on his experiences, agony, struggle and outcome of Dyslexia. He was a blessing to the lighted up faces of the students and faculty of MDA.

He came to share his thoughts on a holistic approach to sustainable community development and Dyslexia on 20-9-2007, as our speaker for weekly meeting. The meeting started with innovation by our little nightingale Annet Shreya and the speaker was introduced by Annet Hariharan M in a poetic manner as follows:

Rotary Greeting to all present here!

We have today with us an Australian by birth
There a million things in him we can unearth

Rotary sent him here from Australia on student exchange
After two decade, his love for Madras never change

He went back to become an architect
In which he always tried to be correct

He loves and designs green building
Constantly creating and innovating

In India, he has a passion for dance and flute
Though in Australia, he heads a research team of repute

He, his wife and son are dyslexic
But that is what made him workaholic

He proved to be successful in spite of being dyslexic
While others view on this were pessimistic

His strengths are networking, design and holistic system
Working towards to maintain the global ecosystem

This man who excels in management and leadership
Now extends his hand for our friendship

He lighted up many faces at our M.D.A yesterday
I am sure it will happen here today

Ladies and Gentlemen:
Permit me to present to you
Mr Tom Haynes
of Creative Innovations,
Australia

This meeting was attended by six member team headed by Smt.Shubba from Madras Dyslexic Association. Many Sharing Presidents and Guests.
